Audi A3/S3/RS3 8Y (Pre-Facelift) – Side Assist / Exit Warning / Rear Cross Traffic Assist System

This Genuine OEM Audi Side Assist retrofit adds Blind Spot Warning functionality to the Audi A3, S3 and RS3 8Y, providing additional driver assistance and improved awareness of surrounding traffic. It also includes Exit Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Assist.

Using radar sensors mounted at the rear of the vehicle, the system continuously monitors the lanes alongside and behind the car for vehicles entering your blind spot area. This is particularly useful during motorway and dual carriageway driving, where vehicles can easily remain outside of the driver’s direct field of vision.

When a vehicle enters the blind spot zone on either side of the car, the LED warning light within the corresponding wing mirror illuminates to alert the driver. Once the vehicle moves clear of the monitored area, the warning light gradually fades out.

If the driver indicates or begins to change lane while a vehicle is still detected within the blind spot, the LED warning light will flash rapidly to provide a more urgent visual warning and help avoid a potential collision.

In addition, we enable "Exit Warning" which is used when the vehicle is parked on the side of a road after driving. If an occupant of the vehicle goes to open either of the front doors and there is a vehicle or cyclist/motorcyclist heading towards the vehicle from behind, the LED in the wing mirror housing will flash rapidly to warn the occupant not to open the door. Please note - it does not stop the occupant from physically opening the door.

Finally, this retrofit includes Rear Cross Traffic Assist (RCTA) which is used when reversing for example out of a parking space in a car park. The radars in the rear bumper can "see" behind the vehicle on either side and if a person/cyclist or another vehicle is passing behind the vehicle it will warn the driver on the MMI screen of the rear view camera (or 360 camera system) and the direction they are appearing from (either the left side or the right side). If the driver fails to stop reversing, the ABS system of the vehicle will apply the brakes to stop a potential collision.
